A Quick Word About Advertising

I want to address ad rates on mom blogs. A lot of mom bloggers, I've noticed, are well adept at putting up media kits and rate sheets, and are tech-savvy enough to fire up PayPal buttons for easy online payments. But one thing I've noticed is a lot of mom bloggers charge too little for advertising. $5 a month for any size banner is too low! Did you hear me? It's too low. I don't care if you have 25 readers a week...it's too low!

If you want to earn money through your blogs or sites, then you have to value what you write and understand that people will value you once you value yourself. That's coming from years of experience, ladies and it's definitely true! Value your blog and then set your ad rates accordingly.

I completely agree with this perspective! I have seen moms selling ad space for $5-10/month and that is just too low.

That said, it would be great if moms had an idea of "standard rates" and what is acceptable for sites in varying traffic categories. Do you think you could publish something like that? I'd love to hear your thoughts on the topic!

Haha - I guess I should have charged you more then :) I would love to hear what kinds of rates you think are acceptable, I'm planning on raising mine now that I'm over three months old and have some pretty good traffic.

Being new to the whole mom blog universe, I have no idea what to charge or what is even considered decent traffic.

I'm ready to learn.

Thanks for the advice. I'm considering adding ad space to my blog. I like Stephanie would like to know what an acceptable rate would be? My traffic is increasing, but it's not great.
